Located on Mombasa Island, the city can be traced back to the 11th century. 
Settlements began to thrive here due to the excellent deep-water harbor and 
its protected position.  The most exotic part of Mombasa is the Old Town. Here, narrow alleys 
lined by mosques and cramped old houses slope down to the bustling harbor. 
ShoppingVendors offer a selection of arts and crafts on the pier. In the Old 
Town you may find beautiful Zanzibar-style chests and carved soapstone 
items. The Akamba Wood-Carvers’ Village offers thoUSAnds of carved

CuisineLocal cuisine includes excellent seafood and spicy stews and game such 
as eland, gazelle, and impala. One of the best-known restaurffffffffffffffants in East

Other Sights Old Dhow Harbor. This busy place is crowded with 
traditional boats (dhows). Nyali Resort Area. A stretch of white sand beaches, with a string 
of resort hotels.  Mamba Village. A crocodile farm of more than 10,000. Shimba Hills National Reserve. Less than an hour from 
Mombasa, this is probably Kenya’s most underrated wildlife refuge.Golf Mombasa Golf Club. The front course  is  the most 
interesting to play because of the surrounding Indian Ocean. |
