With a population of around 370,000 it is the capital of the State of Santa Catarina and a port of call for coastal shipping. Located on Santa Catarina Island, which is joined to the mainland by three bridges, the late-19th century pastel-colored, stuccoed buildings still recall faint “old world” images. ShoppingGood shopping can be found in Florianopolis on “Felipe Schmidt,” an all-pedestrian street.
